Recognition of courses completed during an Erasmus or non-EU exchange programme

When you return from an exchange semester or year abroad (Erasmus, Non-EU or self-organised) and wish to have your courses recognised, you need to apply formally for recognition. Your contact person is Mag. Monika Wittmann.

In most cases you will have discussed course selection and recognition before or during your stay abroad. If your transcript has already arrived, recognition can be carried out quickly. If not, everything can be prepared and additional transcript information (marks/ grades) can be added later. Official transcripts are always mandatory, but PDF-Versions sent directly by the host institution are acceptable. Online screenshots of exams can only serve as provisional information.

PLEASE NOTE: ONCE A RECOGNITION HAS BEEN CARRIED OUT AND ENTERED INTO YOUR UNIVIS ACCOUNT, IT CANNOT BE CHANGED ANY MORE (principle of legal certainty / Prinzip der "Rechtssicherheit" bei Bescheiden).

FORMS NEEDED:

For all applications: Ansuchen um Anerkennung/Application for recognition

and for ERASMUS+:

and for NON-EU EXCHANGE:

Anerkennungsbescheid (see Nach Aufenthalt, item 4)

SELF-ORGANISED  -  no further forms needed

(Erasmus) regulations stipulate a two-month-period for the recognition of courses after your return. This period does not start until your transcript has actually arrived in Austria.

Non-EU exchange participants and self-organised-stay-students will receive an official Bescheid - an important document which needs to be kept carefully and safe, as you will need it again at the end of your studies. Erasmus+ participants will receive the completed "Learning Agreement After Studies" (which is also a Bescheid, but in different form), so this, too, needs to be kept safe until the end of your studies. Original transcripts will be returned to students with the Bescheid; the department keeps a copy.

The complete recognition procedure can also be carried out via email if forms and documents are sent as pdf (preferably) or jpg files. All "Bescheide" and "Learning Agreements" have to be be collected from the StudienServiceStelle Anglistik, which will contact students by email (Unet-address).

At the Department of English, all recognised courses are immediately entered into the UNIVIS / U:Space system and will become visible there; no changes to these recognised courses are possible after this.

If students receive Studienbeihilfe during a stay abroad, they can either hand in a separate SB confirmation form with the other forms, or use the Bescheid or Learning Agreement to prove that they have completed a sufficient number of courses / ECTS.
