Master in English Language and Linguistics

Extending from a well established tradition of scholarship, the Master’s programme in English Language and Linguistics at the University of Vienna offers students the opportunity to experience the innovative approaches to research and teaching that characterize the work of the Department of English. Taking as overarching theme the study of English as a complex adaptive system, research groups and projects such as CLIL, DYLAN, FunCog, NatSide, and VOICE provide the creative basis and impetus for education in linguistic content and methodology.

For the Master’s programme in English Language and Linguistics at the University of Vienna, we are looking for applicants who

  • have a solid background in linguistics
  • have a special interest in one or more of the areas of research specified above 
  • have good research and academic writing skills
  • have a high degree of proficiency in both spoken and written English (C1 CEFR)
  • are willing to engage in academic discourse creatively and critically
